REAR VIEW MIRROR REPLACEMENT · ADELAIDE
Side Rear-View Mirror Replacement — Adelaide
When Australians say rear-view mirror they usually mean one of two very different things: the little mirror stuck to the windscreen, or the two mirrors on the doors. Car Mirror Man replaces the door mirrors — the exterior side rear-view mirrors on both sides of your car. We come to you across metro Adelaide with the exact glass or part for your vehicle and fit it on the spot, usually the same day.
We do not repair or replace the interior mirror on the windscreen. If that is the one that has come loose, an auto glazier is who you want.
As Featured In
Rear view mirror replacement in Adelaide is one of the most-searched mirror jobs in South Australia, and it is also one of the most misunderstood. The phrase covers two completely separate parts of the car. One is the centre mirror glued to the inside of the windscreen. The other is the pair of exterior mirrors mounted on the doors, which the road rules call rear-vision mirrors and most people call side mirrors or wing mirrors. They do different jobs, they fail in different ways, and they are fixed by different trades.
This page is about the exterior ones. If a driver in Modbury reverses into a post and cracks the glass on the driver door, or a Golf owner in Unley finds the mirror glass sitting in the gutter after a hot week, that is our work and we can usually have it sorted the same day for a fraction of a dealer quote.

OUR SERVICE
ALL WORK GUARANTEED
All of our workmanship and products include a written warranty of 12 to 48 months, depending on the model and the work done. The terms and conditions are simple and straight-forward.
Of course, if any damage is caused by misuse, negligence or through an accident, we do not cover it!
Interior or exterior? Sort that out first
Before you book anything, work out which mirror you actually mean. It decides who can help you and what it costs.
Mounted on the door or the A-pillar, one each side. Holds the glass, often a turn-signal strip, a heating element, a fold motor and sometimes a blind-spot module or camera. This is what we replace.
Bonded to the inside of the windscreen on a metal button. Comes away in heat when the adhesive fails. We do not do this one — it is auto glazier work, because the fix involves re-bonding to the screen.
Australian road rules require a clear view to the rear, and on most cars that means a centre mirror plus at least one exterior mirror in working order. A missing or shattered door mirror is the one that gets defected, and it is the one that makes merging onto South Road genuinely dangerous.

What it costs in Adelaide
The single biggest saving is this: if only the glass is broken, you do not need a new mirror. Most shops quote the whole assembly by default because it is faster for them to bill. We assess for a glass-only fix first, every time.
| What is broken | What we do | Typical cost* |
|---|---|---|
| Glass only | Correct ADR-compliant glass cut and fitted to your existing backing plate. | from $135 |
| Cover / housing | Outer cap swapped, glass and motor kept. | $150–$300 |
| Full unit, plain | Whole assembly, manual or basic powered mirror. | $200–$350 |
| Full unit, powered | Electric adjust, power fold or integrated indicator. | $350–$500 |
| Blind-spot / camera / auto-dim | Mirrors carrying driver-assist electronics. | Quoted per vehicle |
*Indicative bands. The exact figure depends on your vehicle and which features the mirror carries. Send a photo and we will give you a fixed price before we start. The full breakdown is in our Adelaide side mirror cost guide.
A cracked mirror does not mean a new mirror. If the housing, motor and wiring are all fine and only the glass has gone, the glass is the only thing you should be paying for. Ask any quote you receive to separate the glass from the assembly — it is the fastest way to tell whether you are being sold more than you need.
The Anatomy
What’s inside a car side mirror
Five parts that can fail independently — and only one that’s usually broken. That’s where the money-saver hides.

The 5 layers of a modern car side mirror — when only layer 1 is broken, you only pay for layer 1.
Why the exterior mirrors fail in an Adelaide summer
Two failures dominate our Adelaide callouts, and both are seasonal.
Tight bays in the Rundle Mall carparks, narrow inner-west streets, a trolley on a windy day. The glass takes the hit and the housing survives — which is exactly the cheap repair.
On a lot of European models built roughly 2009 to 2017, the factory adhesive behind the glass gives up after enough hot summers and the glass simply drops out. Common, and a straightforward specialist fix.
Power-fold mirrors that grind, buzz or stop halfway. Usually a worn clip or a failed motor, both replaceable on their own. See our power-folding repair page.
The turn-signal strip built into the mirror cover. Replaceable as a part rather than a whole assembly on most vehicles.
Why choose Car Mirror Man
Mirrors are the only thing we do. That focus is what lets us fix the part instead of selling you the whole unit.
Glass, cover, motor and indicator are all separate parts. We only ever change what is actually broken.
ADR-compliant automotive mirror glass, cut here — so we are never forced into a full-assembly-only part.
Home, work or the school pick-up line, anywhere across metro Adelaide. Glass-only fits from outside, so you do not need to be there.
In writing. Glass is guaranteed for as long as you own the vehicle; replacement parts carry their own written warranty.

Rear view mirror replacement Adelaide — your questions answered
Do you replace the interior rear-view mirror on the windscreen?
No. We replace the exterior side rear-view mirrors on the doors, not the interior mirror bonded to the windscreen. If the interior one has come away, an auto glazier is the right trade for it because the repair involves re-bonding to the glass.
What does rear view mirror replacement cost in Adelaide?
If only the glass is broken, from $135. A cover or housing is $150 to $300. A full plain unit is $200 to $350, a powered unit $350 to $500, and mirrors carrying blind-spot, camera or auto-dim electronics are quoted per vehicle. Send a photo for a fixed price.
Is it illegal to drive with a broken side mirror in South Australia?
Australian road rules require a clear view to the rear. A mirror that is missing, or cracked to the point you cannot see through it, is the enforceable case and can attract a fine or a defect notice. There is more detail in our guide on driving with a broken side mirror in SA.
Can you replace just the glass, or do I need the whole mirror?
Usually just the glass. If the housing, fold motor, indicator and wiring are all working and only the glass is cracked or missing, the glass is the only part that needs replacing. That is by far the lowest cost option.
Do I need to be there when you come?
For a glass-only replacement, no. The work is done entirely from outside the car, so we can do it while you are at work or at home. Jobs that need the door trim opened are booked for a time that suits you.
How quickly can you get to me?
Across metro Adelaide we are often same day or next day. Send your photo early and we will confirm the soonest window in your area, from Salisbury and Modbury through to Glenelg, Marion and Port Adelaide.
My mirror glass fell out in the heat. Is that normal?
On a lot of vehicles built around 2009 to 2017 it is very common. The factory adhesive behind the glass degrades after enough hot summers and the glass drops off, often with no impact at all. We refit the correct ADR-compliant glass to the backing plate properly so it does not happen again.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes, in writing. Mirror glass is guaranteed for as long as you own the vehicle for manufacturing and workmanship, and any replacement part we fit carries its own written warranty. Impact, accident, misuse and negligence are excluded, and the guarantee is not transferable.
