The money-saver most drivers miss

If only the glass is cracked, don’t pay for a full mirror. Panel shops default to the full assembly. We assess for a glass-only fix first — often from $135. See our full cost guide for the detailed breakdown.

Why drivers choose us

Electric folding mirror motor repair without swapping the whole mirror

Electric folding mirror motor repair is a job most workshops turn into a full-unit replacement because it's easier for them. It's not easier for you — you end up paying for a mirror when only one small motor inside it has actually failed. We diagnose the specific fault and replace only what's broken.

Motor reality #1 — there are three separate motors

Most modern power mirrors carry three motors: fold, glass-adjust (up/down/left/right), and sometimes a heater element. Each fails separately. If your fold doesn't work but adjust does, it's the fold motor — not the whole mirror.

Motor reality #2 — clicking without motion = motor

A clicking noise when you press the fold or adjust button, but no actual mirror movement, is a classic dead motor. The relay is trying to drive a gear that's stripped or seized.

Motor reality #3 — no click at all = wiring or switch

Silence when you press the button often points to wiring, connector or switch, not the motor itself. Diagnosis first saves you paying for a part that won't fix the actual problem.

Motor reality #4 — aftermarket vs OEM

For most Toyota, Ford, Hyundai and Mazda motors, quality aftermarket parts perform identically to OEM at half the price. For European cars we usually recommend OEM to protect the memory-position coding.

ELECTRIC FOLDING MIRROR MOTOR REPAIR

The folding motor specialist — mirror stays, motor gets replaced

Powered mirror folding motors fail. It’s a design compromise in about 40–50% of every powered-fold vehicle on Australian roads. Toyota, Ford, Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, VW, Skoda, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes — the same underlying gear-and-clutch design is used across dozens of makes, and the failure mode is the same: the plastic gear teeth wear or strip, or the small clutch spring fatigues, and the mirror stops folding. Almost every dealer defaults to swapping the whole mirror assembly at $700–$1,500. The correct fix is to replace just the motor. From $400 — flat, regardless of the car.

FAQs

Electric folding mirror motor repair without swapping the whole mirror — answered

My mirror motor just clicks — how much to fix?

Powered mirror work starts from $350 including diagnosis, motor part, and fit at your driveway. Exact price depends on the vehicle and which motor is failing. See our full cost guide.

Can you tell what's broken without seeing the car?

Usually yes — a short video (5 seconds pressing the button so we can hear whether it clicks) plus the make, model and year is enough for us to quote. Send it via the instant quote page.

Aftermarket motor or OEM — which should I choose?

For most Japanese and Korean cars, quality aftermarket is functionally identical to OEM at a lower price. For European cars with memory-position or camera integration, we usually recommend OEM.

How long does a motor job take?

About 45 minutes at your driveway. Some models take longer if the door card has to come off for wiring access — we tell you upfront if that applies to yours.

Motor works but glass won't heat — same job?

Heater elements are a separate part. If only the heat function has failed, we can quote that specifically. Diagnosis first, then a targeted swap.

Is fold-only failure worth fixing on an older car?

Depends. If the rest of the mirror is in good shape, yes — a $350–$500 motor job is the lowest cost option versus a full-unit replacement. If the housing and glass are also tired, sometimes a full swap is the smarter spend.
