When glass-only is the right call
Thirty seconds with the car tells you whether you need glass or a whole mirror. Work through it before you accept anyone's quote.
The housing is intact. The mirror still moves on the adjuster switch. It still folds. The indicator still flashes. Only the reflective surface is cracked, crazed or missing.
The housing is cracked or hanging. The mirror will not adjust or fold. The indicator is dead. Wiring is exposed. Then we are into covers, motors or a full assembly.

A cracked mirror does not mean a new mirror. If the housing, motor and wiring are all fine and only the glass has gone, the glass is the only thing you should be paying for. Ask any quote you receive to separate the glass from the assembly — it is the fastest way to tell whether you are being sold more than you need.

Which glass does your car take?
Mirror glass is not generic. Fitting the wrong type changes how the mirror reads and, on driver-assist cars, can stop features working. This is why we ask for a photo rather than working from a model name.
True size and distance. Usually the driver side. The most affordable glass there is.
Curved for a wider field. Usually the passenger side. Objects appear further away than they are.
Flat inner section with a curved outer band. Common on European models sold in Sydney.
An element bonded behind the glass with its own connector. Replacement glass must carry it.
Carries the warning icon. The sensor itself sits in the rear bumper, not in the glass.
Electrochromic glass that darkens against headlight glare. Quoted per vehicle.

How much is side mirror glass replacement in Sydney?
Plain and convex glass starts from $135. Heated, aspherical and blind-spot glass costs more because the part costs more, and auto-dimming glass is quoted per vehicle. Send a photo and we will give you a fixed price before any work starts.
Can you replace just the glass, or do I need the whole mirror?
Just the glass, in most cases. If the housing is intact and the mirror still adjusts, folds and indicates, the glass is the only part that needs replacing. That is the lowest cost option by a wide margin.
Do I need to be there?
No. Glass-only replacement is done entirely from outside the vehicle, so we can fit it while the car is parked at home, at work or at the station.
How long does it take?
Usually 20 to 40 minutes on site. Heated and blind-spot glass can take a little longer because of the electrical connector.
My European car's mirror glass fell out on its own. Can you fix it?
Yes, and it is common. On many models built around 2009 to 2017 the factory adhesive degrades in the heat and the glass drops off with no impact at all. The backing plate is usually fine, so it is a straightforward glass replacement.

Is the glass guaranteed?
Yes, in writing. Mirror glass carries an unlimited warranty for as long as you own the vehicle, covering manufacturing and workmanship. Impact, accident, misuse and negligence are excluded, and the guarantee is not transferable.
Will aftermarket glass affect my blind-spot warning?
No. On virtually all vehicles the blind-spot sensor sits in the rear bumper, not in the mirror. The glass only carries the warning icon, so fitting the correct blind-spot glass keeps the system working normally.
