SIDE MIRROR GLASS REPLACEMENT · MELBOURNE
Side Mirror Glass Replacement — Melbourne
If the glass in your side mirror is cracked, crazed or gone altogether, you almost certainly do not need a whole new mirror. Car Mirror Man cuts and fits replacement mirror glass across metro Melbourne — Werribee to Frankston, the CBD out to the Dandenongs — usually the same day, and usually for a fraction of a full-assembly quote.
We come to your home, your work or wherever the car is parked. Glass-only replacement is done entirely from outside the vehicle, so you do not even need to be there.
As Featured In
Side mirror glass replacement in Melbourne is the single most common job we do, and it is also the one most often quoted wrongly. A cracked mirror is not a broken mirror. The glass is one layer of five, and when the housing, motor, indicator and wiring are all still working, the glass is the only part that needs to change.
A trolley in a Chadstone carpark, a wing mirror clipped on a narrow Fitzroy street, a stone off the Monash — the glass takes the damage and the rest of the mirror survives. That is a from-$135 job, not a several-hundred-dollar assembly.

When glass-only is the right call
Take thirty seconds with the car and you can usually tell whether you need glass or a whole mirror.
The housing is intact. The mirror still moves when you use the adjuster switch. It still folds. The indicator still flashes. Only the reflective surface is cracked, crazed or missing.
The housing is cracked or hanging. The mirror will not adjust or fold. The indicator is dead. Wiring is exposed. Then we are into covers, motors or a full assembly.
Send us a photo either way. We would rather tell you it is a $135 job than sell you something you do not need.

Which glass does your car take?
Mirror glass is not generic. Fitting the wrong type changes how the mirror reads and, on driver-assist cars, can stop features working.
True size and distance. Usually the driver side. The most affordable glass.
Curved for a wider field. Usually the passenger side. Objects appear further away.
Flat inner section with a curved outer band. Common on European models.
Element bonded behind the glass, with its own connector. Standard on a lot of Melbourne winter cars.
Carries the warning icon. The sensor is in the bumper, not the glass.
Electrochromic glass that darkens against glare. Quoted per vehicle.

The Anatomy
What’s inside a car side mirror
Five parts that can fail independently — and only one that’s usually broken. That’s where the money-saver hides.

The 5 layers of a modern car side mirror — when only layer 1 is broken, you only pay for layer 1.
The 2009–2017 European glass problem
Melbourne has a lot of European cars, and a specific batch of them share a fault worth knowing about. On a broad range of models built roughly 2009 to 2017, the factory adhesive holding the glass to its backing plate degrades with heat and age. Eventually the glass drops out on its own — no impact, no carpark, no explanation.
Owners are routinely told the whole mirror needs replacing. It does not. The backing plate is almost always fine and the correct glass refits to it properly. It is one of the most satisfying jobs we do, because the saving is so large.

Side mirror glass replacement Melbourne — your questions answered
How much is side mirror glass replacement in Melbourne?
Plain and convex glass starts from $135. Heated, aspherical and blind-spot glass costs more because the part itself costs more, and auto-dimming glass is quoted per vehicle. Send a photo and we will give you a fixed price before any work starts.
Can you replace just the glass, or do I need the whole mirror?
Just the glass, in most cases. If the housing is intact and the mirror still adjusts, folds and indicates, the glass is the only part that needs replacing. That is the lowest cost option by a wide margin.
Do I need to be there?
No. Glass-only replacement is done entirely from outside the vehicle, so we can fit it while the car is parked at home, at work or at the station.
How long does it take?
Usually 20 to 40 minutes on site. Heated and blind-spot glass can take a little longer because of the electrical connector.
My European car's mirror glass fell out on its own. Can you fix it?
Yes, and it is common. On many models built around 2009 to 2017 the factory adhesive degrades and the glass drops off with no impact at all. The backing plate is usually fine, so it is a straightforward glass replacement.
Do you cover my suburb?
We cover the whole Melbourne metro, from Werribee and Melton in the west through the CBD to Ringwood and the Dandenongs, and south to Frankston. The full suburb list is further down this page.
Is the glass guaranteed?
Yes, in writing. Mirror glass is guaranteed for as long as you own the vehicle for manufacturing and workmanship. Impact, accident, misuse and negligence are excluded, and the guarantee is not transferable.
Will aftermarket glass affect my blind-spot warning?
No. On virtually all vehicles the blind-spot sensor sits in the rear bumper, not in the mirror. The glass only carries the warning icon, so fitting the correct blind-spot glass keeps the system working normally.
