SIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR REPLACEMENT · MELBOURNE
Side Rear-View Mirror Replacement — Melbourne
People search for a rear-view mirror when they mean the mirrors on the doors, and the two are completely different jobs. Car Mirror Man replaces the exterior side mirrors — the ones on the outside of the car, left and right.
We do not work on the interior mirror bonded to the windscreen. That is auto-glazier work, and we will tell you so rather than take the booking.
As Featured In
Side rear-view mirror replacement in Melbourne covers the two mirrors mounted on the outside of your doors. Those are the ones that get clipped in traffic, folded back by a passing van, or knocked off in a carpark.
The name causes real confusion. The mirror glued to the inside of your windscreen is the interior rear-view mirror and it is a different trade entirely. Everything on this page is about the exterior mirrors.

Exterior mirrors, and why the name matters
Getting the terminology right saves you a wasted booking. Here is the difference in plain terms.
Mounted on the outside of each front door. Carry the glass, the housing, usually a fold motor, often an indicator repeater, sometimes heating and blind-spot electronics.
Bonded to the inside of the windscreen. Replacing or rebonding it is auto-glazier work and we do not take those jobs.

What a side mirror replacement costs
Because the exterior mirror is an assembly, the price depends entirely on how much of it has to change. The ladder below is the whole picture.
| What is broken | What we do | Typical cost* |
|---|---|---|
| Glass only | Correct ADR-compliant glass cut and fitted to your existing backing plate. | from $135 |
| Cover / housing | Outer cap swapped, glass and motor kept. | $150–$300 |
| Full mirror, plain | Whole assembly, manual or basic powered mirror. | $200–$350 |
| Full mirror, powered | Electric adjust, power fold or integrated indicator. | $350–$500 |
| Blind-spot, camera or auto-dim | Mirrors carrying driver-assist electronics. | Quoted per vehicle |
*Indicative bands. A complete mirror unit is always quoted per vehicle, because the part cost varies enormously between models. Send a photo for a fixed price. Every band here comes from our national price guide — the single source of truth for what we charge. Read the full side mirror replacement cost guide.
If the housing survived and only the glass broke, you are at the bottom rung of that ladder, not the top. It is worth thirty seconds checking whether the mirror still adjusts and folds before you accept a whole-unit quote.
The Anatomy
What’s inside a car side mirror
Five parts that can fail independently — and only one that’s usually broken. That’s where the money-saver hides.

The 5 layers of a modern car side mirror — when only layer 1 is broken, you only pay for layer 1.
What gets damaged, and how
Exterior mirrors sit at exactly the height of everything that passes a parked car. These are the four we see most across Melbourne.
Narrow inner-north streets with cars parked both sides. A van or a truck takes the mirror as it squeezes through.
Trolleys, doors and columns in multi-storey carparks. Usually cover or glass, rarely the whole unit.
A powered mirror forced past its stop can strip the fold gearbox. That is a motor job, not a whole mirror.
A chip that spreads into a crack across the glass. Glass only, and the lowest-cost fix on the ladder.
Why choose Car Mirror Man in Melbourne
Glass, cover, motor and indicator are separate parts. We only ever change what is actually broken.
ADR-compliant automotive mirror glass, cut here — so we are never forced into a full-assembly-only part.
Home, work or the station carpark. Glass-only fits from outside, so the car can stay locked.
In writing. Unlimited on mirror glass for as long as you own the vehicle, three years on a full mirror assembly, twelve months on an individual replacement part.

Side rear-view mirror replacement Melbourne — your questions answered
Do you replace the mirror inside the car on the windscreen?
No. We work on the exterior side mirrors only. The interior mirror is bonded to the windscreen and that is auto-glazier work.
What is the difference between a side mirror and a rear-view mirror?
In everyday use people say rear-view mirror for both. Technically the rear-view mirror is the interior one on the windscreen, and the ones on the doors are side mirrors or door mirrors. We do the exterior ones.
How much does it cost to replace a side mirror in Melbourne?
Glass alone starts at $135. A cover is $150 to $300. A complete unit is quoted per vehicle because the part price varies so much between models.
Can you come to my house?
Yes. We are mobile across metro Melbourne and fit at your home, your work or wherever the car is parked.
How long does the job take?
Most jobs are done in twenty to forty minutes. A full assembly on a car with driver-assist electronics can take a little longer.
Do I need both mirrors replaced if one is broken?
No. Mirrors are replaced individually. There is no reason to touch the good one.
Will a missing side mirror fail a roadworthy?
Your car must give a clear view along both sides. A missing or broken exterior mirror is a common roadworthy fail in Victoria.
Do you fit genuine parts?
We fit the part that is right for your vehicle and tell you which it is before you agree. Send a photo and we will identify exactly what your car takes.
