Toyota RAV4 Side Mirror Parts: Replace Just the Broken Piece
By Duber, The Car Mirror Man · Car Mirrors Australia · Updated October 2026 · 12 min read

Short answer: on Toyota RAV4s from about 2014 onwards, we can replace just the broken pieces of the mirror: the glass, the frame or surround ring, the indicator, the bottom trim and the mirror base, including the electric folding where the mirror has it. Most RAV4 mirror damage does not need a whole new assembly. Send a photo and we will quote the exact piece.
Anywhere in our five cities: we can replace a Toyota RAV4 side mirror at your home or work — see our mobile mirror service.
Ask most people what a RAV4 side mirror is and they will describe one object. It is really five or six separate pieces clipped and bolted together. A car-park scrape might break the frame around the glass. A knock might crack the indicator lens. A hit on the base might stop the fold working. Each of those pieces can be replaced on its own on a RAV4 from about 2014 onwards, and replacing only what broke is almost always cheaper than replacing everything. This guide goes through each piece, what the damage looks like, and how we decide between a single piece and a whole mirror.
The four parts, and what each one costs
A side mirror is a handful of separate components. Which one broke is what decides the price, not the badge on the car. A whole mirror is the last resort, not the starting point.
The RAV4 and its mirrors
The fourth-generation RAV4 arrived in 2012 and the fifth generation followed in 2018 [1]. Mirrors on cars of this age can carry an indicator in the housing, heating and electric folding [2]. More features means more separate pieces, and more places for a single piece to fail.
In our own repair work on RAV4s from about 2014 onwards, the same thing keeps turning up. The mirror looks badly damaged from the outside, but only one or two pieces have actually failed. The rest is sound and does not need replacing.

The five pieces we replace on their own
That last card is the exception, not the rule. We start from the smallest piece that explains the damage and work up only if we have to.
What you see and what it usually means
| What you see | The piece it usually points to |
|---|---|
| Cracked or missing glass, the rest looks fine | Glass only |
| A crack in the plastic frame around the glass | Frame or surround ring |
| Indicator not flashing, or the lens is cracked | Indicator |
| Trim under the mirror hanging off or snapped | Bottom trim |
| Mirror loose, will not fold, or flops on its mount | Base, including the folding mechanism |
| Whole head smashed or sheared off the door | Often several pieces, sometimes the whole assembly |
Several pieces can be damaged in the same knock, and that is fine. Two or three small pieces are still usually cheaper than one whole assembly. The photo you send tells us which pieces are involved.

How a piece-by-piece repair works
Front-on, to show the glass and the frame, and from the side, to show the trim and the base. Tell us your RAV4’s year if you know it.
From the photos we tell you which piece or pieces need replacing, and quote each one.
You get a price for the pieces that failed. No call-out fee, and nothing starts until you agree.
We fit the pieces at your home or workplace, then test the glass, the indicator and the fold, wherever your mirror has those features.

What it costs
The glass and cover prices are the same as everywhere on this site. Pieces such as the surround ring, the indicator, the bottom trim and the base are quoted per vehicle, because they differ by RAV4 year and grade. We would rather give you the true figure after seeing a photo than quote a rough number.
| What broke | What it costs |
|---|---|
| Mirror glass only | From $135 fitted |
| Painted cover | $150 to $300 |
| Plain assembly, no electrics | $200 to $350 |
| Powered assembly | $350 to $500 |
| Surround ring, indicator, bottom trim, base, blind-spot or camera | Quoted per vehicle |
Because each piece is priced on its own, the total for a multi-piece repair is simply the pieces you actually need. We list them separately on the quote, so you can see where the money goes.

Does the year of my RAV4 matter
It does, for the part and for the price. Mirrors can differ between the fourth and the fifth generation [1], and between trim levels within each. The approach does not change. We identify the pieces, order the right ones for your car and fit them.
Grade matters because it decides which features your mirror has. A base grade may have no electric fold, no heating and no indicator in the housing. A higher grade may have all three. Each feature is another piece that can fail, and another piece we can replace on its own.
If you know the year and grade of your RAV4, include it in your message. If you do not, a photo of the driver’s door sill label or the front of the car is enough for us to work it out.
How to take a photo that gets you an exact quote
The faster we can see which pieces failed, the faster we can quote. A few photos taken on your phone are all we need.
Stand about a metre back and take one clear photo of the mirror head. It shows the glass, the frame and the indicator.
Crouch down and photograph the underside. It shows the bottom trim and any damage to the base.
This shows whether the head is sitting straight or hanging, which tells us about the base.
Include the whole car, and a photo of the mirror switch if you can. It tells us which features your mirror has.
If the mirror folds, tilts or flashes in a way that looks wrong, add a short video. Noise matters too, so leave the sound on.
Genuine or aftermarket pieces
For many pieces there is a choice. A genuine piece is made by or for the car maker. An aftermarket piece is made by another manufacturer to fit. Genuine pieces usually cost more. Aftermarket pieces can cost less, and the difference is often largest on the larger pieces. Where both exist for your RAV4, we quote both and let you choose.
The right choice depends on what is broken and how long you plan to keep the car. For a small piece such as a trim or an indicator lens, the price gap is usually small. For a base, it can be larger, which is another reason it helps to see a photo before deciding.
Stopping it happening again
A RAV4 is taller and wider than a small car, and its mirrors sit further out. A few habits reduce the chance of another knock.
Driving with a damaged RAV4 mirror
A cracked piece of trim or a dead indicator is annoying but rarely stops you driving. A cracked glass or a loose mirror head is more serious. Rear-vision mirrors are covered by Australian Design Rule 14/02 [3], and you need a clear view to the rear. If the glass is broken or the head is loose, get it fixed before it affects your driving.
An indicator that has stopped working is also worth fixing promptly. It is part of how other drivers see what you intend to do.
What our customers tell us
Fast turnaround is the thing customers mention most.
Every review quoted on this site is a real, verified customer review. We do not write them and we do not edit them.
Paying yourself or claiming
A single-piece repair is usually well under a typical comprehensive excess, so most owners pay directly. Where several pieces or the base are involved, the total can move closer to the excess, and it is worth checking your policy before you decide. That balance is how comprehensive cover is designed [4]. We do not bill insurers ourselves, but our itemised invoice lists each piece, which makes a claim easier.
Mirror glass carries an unlimited warranty, a replacement assembly three years and an individual part twelve months. Under Australian consumer law, a service must be carried out with due care and skill [5]. We test each function before we leave.
Every band above comes from our national price guide, which is the single source of truth for what we charge. If you want the full breakdown by part and by vehicle, read our side mirror replacement cost guide.
We come to you in five cities
Every job is mobile. We drive to your home, your work or the car park the car is sitting in, and the mirror is fitted and tested before we leave.
Frequently asked questions
Can you replace just the glass on a Toyota RAV4 mirror?
Yes. If the housing is intact and the mirror folds, tilts and indicates, glass is the only part that needs replacing, and it is the cheapest outcome. Glass starts from $135 fitted.
Can you replace only the indicator?
In most cases, yes. If the indicator is the only piece that has failed, we replace that piece and leave the rest of the mirror as it is.
What is the surround ring?
It is the frame around the mirror glass. If it is cracked or broken, it can be replaced without replacing the glass, the motor or the base.
My RAV4 mirror will not fold. Is it the whole mirror?
Often it is the mirror base or the folding mechanism inside it, not the whole assembly. Send a photo and a short video of it trying to fold.
Which RAV4 years do you cover?
We work on RAV4s from about 2014 onwards. The pieces differ between generations, so we confirm for your car from a photo.
How much does it cost?
Glass is from $135 fitted and a cover is $150 to $300. Other pieces, including the base, are quoted per vehicle. Send a photo for an exact price.
Do you come to me?
Yes. We are mobile in our five cities. There is no call-out fee.
How long does it take?
Most of our mirror jobs take 20 to 40 minutes on site. A multi-piece repair can take longer, depending on the car, and we tell you when we quote.
Is a genuine part dearer than an aftermarket one?
Often, yes. Where both exist we quote both and let you choose.
What warranty do I get?
Mirror glass carries an unlimited warranty, an assembly three years and an individual part twelve months.
