What is actually inside a driver-assist mirror
Each of these changes both the part price and the fitting job. Most cars carry two or three of them, not all six.
A warning light in the glass, fed by radar sensors in the rear bumper. The glass carries the indicator, not the sensor.
A film behind the glass that clears fog and frost. Replacement glass must carry the element and the correct connector.
Electrochromic glass that darkens against headlight glare, the same principle used in interior auto-dim mirrors.
Surround-view systems mount a camera under the housing. These need care on removal and, on some vehicles, recalibration.
A downward light in the base of the housing, often projecting a badge. Cosmetic, but part of the assembly cost.
Motors that return to a stored position per driver. More wiring, and more to test after fitting.

This is exactly why a blanket price for a full mirror unit is meaningless. A plain manual mirror on a small hatch and a camera-equipped blind-spot mirror on a large SUV are not comparable parts.

Before you replace anything, check whether the warning light itself has failed or the system has. If the radar in the bumper is fine and only the glass is cracked, you are replacing glass with an icon on it — not a sensor.

Common driver-assist faults, and what they actually mean
Most of what gets diagnosed as a dead mirror is a single component.
Often the glass connector rather than the radar. Worth checking before anyone quotes a sensor.
Switch, fuse or element, in that order. The element is the least likely of the three to be the cause.
The lowest-cost outcome. Correct blind-spot or heated glass fitted to your existing plate.
Usually the camera or its lead rather than the whole assembly, though some vehicles need recalibration.

Will aftermarket glass break my blind-spot warning?
No. On virtually all vehicles the blind-spot sensor sits in the rear bumper, not in the mirror. The glass only carries the warning icon, so fitting the correct blind-spot glass keeps the system working normally.
How much is blind-spot or heated mirror glass in Sydney?
Heated glass costs more than plain because the part costs more. Blind-spot, camera and auto-dimming mirrors are quoted per vehicle — there is no honest single band for them. Send a photo and we will give you a fixed price.
My heated mirror stopped working. Is it the glass?
Often not. The usual order of suspects is the switch, then the fuse, then the element itself. We check the cheap causes before quoting glass.
Can you fit heated glass to a car that did not have it?
Not reliably. The wiring and switch have to be there already. If your car was not built with heating, retrofitting it is rarely worth the cost.
Does replacing the glass need a recalibration?
Glass alone, no. If a surround-view camera is disturbed, some vehicles do require a recalibration and we will tell you before we start rather than after.
Do you come to me?
Yes, anywhere across metro Sydney. Most driver-assist glass is still fitted from outside the vehicle.
How do I know which version my mirror is?
Send a photo. The indicator strip, a heating symbol on the switch, a blind-spot icon in the glass and a camera lens under the housing are all visible, and that is how we identify the exact part.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes, in writing, and the term depends on what was fitted. Mirror glass carries an unlimited warranty for as long as you own the vehicle, covering manufacturing and workmanship. A full mirror assembly carries a three-year written warranty. An individual replacement part — a motor, a cover, an indicator or a camera cap — carries a twelve-month warranty on that part and the workmanship to fit it. Impact, accident damage, misuse and negligence are excluded across all three.
