POWER-FOLDING MIRROR REPAIR · SYDNEY
Power-Folding Mirror Repair — Sydney
A power-fold mirror has small plastic clips and a geared motor. Fold it a few thousand times and eventually something slips. The symptom is a grinding noise, a buzz with no movement, or a mirror that stops halfway.
Almost none of that requires a new mirror. The fold motor and the clips are separate parts and both are replaceable on their own.
As Featured In
Power folding mirror repair in Sydney is one of the clearest examples of why we assess before we quote. A mirror that will not fold sounds terminal and is almost never terminal.
Inside the housing sit a small geared motor and a set of nylon clutch tabs. The tabs are designed to slip if the mirror is forced by hand, which protects the motor. Over years of use, or one firm shove in a tight Sydney carpark, they wear past the point of gripping.

OUR SERVICE
ALL WORK GUARANTEED
All of our workmanship and products include a written warranty of 12 to 48 months, depending on the model and the work done. The terms and conditions are simple and straight-forward.
Of course, if any damage is caused by misuse, negligence or through an accident, we do not cover it!
What the noise is telling you
The sound a failing fold mechanism makes is a genuinely useful diagnostic. Each one points at a different part.
Worn nylon clutch tabs slipping past the gear. The classic symptom, and the lowest-cost to fix.
The motor is powered but cannot drive. Usually a stripped gear inside the motor housing.
A partial obstruction or a failing gear train. Often recoverable without a new assembly.
Power is not reaching the motor. Switch, fuse or wiring before anything else.
A jammed or broken return spring in the mechanism.
The mirror is no longer holding its detent — worn tabs again, not a dead motor.

What a fold repair costs
The fold motor is a component, not the mirror. Pricing it as a component is the whole point of calling a specialist.
| What is broken | What we do | Typical cost* |
|---|---|---|
| Glass only | Correct ADR-compliant glass cut and fitted to your existing backing plate. | from $135 |
| Cover / housing | Outer cap swapped, glass and motor kept. | $150–$300 |
| Full mirror, plain | Whole assembly, manual or basic powered mirror. | $200–$350 |
| Full mirror, powered | Electric adjust, power fold or integrated indicator. | $350–$500 |
| Blind-spot, camera or auto-dim | Mirrors carrying driver-assist electronics. | Quoted per vehicle |
*Indicative bands. A fold motor replaced on its own sits well below a full assembly. Send a photo and tell us the noise it makes for a fixed price. Every band here comes from our national price guide — the single source of truth for what we charge. Read the full side mirror replacement cost guide.
If you have ever folded the mirror by hand while the motor was engaged, the clutch tabs are the first suspect. That is a clip repair, not a mirror replacement, and any quote for a whole assembly on those symptoms is worth a second opinion.
The Anatomy
What’s inside a car side mirror
Five parts that can fail independently — and only one that’s usually broken. That’s where the money-saver hides.

The 5 layers of a modern car side mirror — when only layer 1 is broken, you only pay for layer 1.
What we check before quoting
Diagnosing in the right order is what keeps the price down.
A dead fold switch presents exactly like a dead motor and costs a fraction of one.
Shared with other body electrics on many vehicles, so we check what else is out.
Door looms flex thousands of times. A broken core inside the rubber boot is common and repairable.
By the time we get here we know it is actually the motor, not something upstream.
Why choose Car Mirror Man in Sydney
Glass, cover, motor and indicator are separate parts. We only ever change what is actually broken.
ADR-compliant automotive mirror glass, cut here — so we are never forced into a full-assembly-only part.
Home, work or the station carpark. Glass-only fits from outside, so the car can stay locked.
In writing. Unlimited on mirror glass for as long as you own the vehicle, three years on a full mirror assembly, twelve months on an individual replacement part.

Power folding mirror repair Sydney — your questions answered
My mirror grinds when it folds. Do I need a new mirror?
Almost certainly not. That grinding is worn nylon clutch tabs slipping inside the fold mechanism, and they are replaceable on their own without touching the glass or the housing.
How much does power folding mirror repair cost in Sydney?
It depends which part failed. A clip or a fold motor replaced on its own sits well below the cost of a full assembly. Glass-only work starts from $135 and a full mirror unit is quoted per car. Send a photo for a fixed price.
The mirror buzzes but does not move. What is that?
The motor is receiving power but cannot drive, which usually means a stripped gear inside the motor housing. The motor is replaceable as a unit.
I folded it by hand and now it will not work. Is that my fault?
Not really — the clutch tabs are designed to slip so the motor is not damaged. Doing it repeatedly wears them out, but that is the part doing its job and it is a cheap fix.
Can you fix it at my house?
Yes. Most fold repairs are done on site across metro Sydney. Some vehicles need the door trim opened, which we will tell you when we quote.
How long does it take?
A fold motor is usually around 45 minutes. Clip and mechanism work is often quicker.
Will the mirror still fold automatically afterwards?
Yes. We repair the existing mechanism or fit the correct replacement motor, so the factory fold behaviour is unchanged.
Is the repair guaranteed?
Yes, in writing, and the term depends on what was fitted. Mirror glass carries an unlimited warranty for as long as you own the vehicle, covering manufacturing and workmanship. A full mirror assembly carries a three-year written warranty. An individual replacement part — a motor, a cover, an indicator or a camera cap — carries a twelve-month warranty on that part and the workmanship to fit it. Impact, accident damage, misuse and negligence are excluded across all three.
