Side Rear-View Mirror Replacement — Sydney

Interior or exterior? Sort that out first
Before you book anything, work out which mirror you mean. It decides who can help you and what it costs.
Mounted on the door or A-pillar, one each side. Holds the glass, often an indicator strip, a heating element, a fold motor and sometimes a blind-spot module. This is what we replace.
Bonded to the inside of the windscreen on a metal button. Comes away in heat when the adhesive fails. We do not do this one — the fix involves re-bonding to the screen, which is glazier work.

Do you replace the interior rear-view mirror on the windscreen?
No. We replace the exterior side rear-view mirrors on the doors, not the interior mirror bonded to the windscreen. If the interior one has come away, an auto glazier is the right trade because the repair involves re-bonding to the glass.
What does rear view mirror replacement cost in Sydney?
If only the glass is broken, from $135. A cover or housing is $150 to $300. A full plain unit is $200 to $350, a powered unit $350 to $500, and mirrors carrying blind-spot, camera or auto-dim electronics are quoted per vehicle.
Is it illegal to drive with a broken side mirror in NSW?
Australian road rules require a clear view to the rear. A mirror that is missing, or cracked to the point you cannot see through it, is the enforceable case and can attract a fine or a defect notice in New South Wales.
Can you replace just the glass, or do I need the whole mirror?
Usually just the glass. If the housing, fold motor, indicator and wiring are all working and only the glass is cracked or missing, the glass is the only part that needs replacing.
Do I need to be there when you come?
For a glass-only replacement, no. The work is done entirely from outside the car, so we can do it while you are at work or at home.

My mirror glass fell out in the heat. Is that normal?
On a lot of vehicles built around 2009 to 2017 it is very common. The factory adhesive behind the glass degrades and the glass drops off, often with no impact at all. We refit the correct ADR-compliant glass properly so it does not happen again.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes, in writing, and the term depends on what was fitted. Mirror glass carries an unlimited warranty for as long as you own the vehicle, covering manufacturing and workmanship. A full mirror assembly carries a three-year written warranty. An individual replacement part — a motor, a cover, an indicator or a camera cap — carries a twelve-month warranty on that part and the workmanship to fit it. Impact, accident damage, misuse and negligence are excluded across all three.
